Nov 1989. Many kids comes to puberty quite early in the teenage years. Being a part of a group of 16 year old, hormones starts to show. Broader voices, hairs all of over the place, and last but not the least, lack of control of some muscles in certain areas and in certain situations. However, this is quite varied amongst us. Some of us were fully fledged 😳quite young. Debola Energy Adesida had a body of body builder of a 16 year old even though he was 13 at the time. There were some that were looking 16 years but where closer to getting to their twenties and time has proven this to be true. Some of these guys were stronger, bigger muscles and started having more uncontrollable flexes with the opposite sex. There are examples of some of us with stories that I cannot go into and there is a possibility that there are others with something to show for it. In some cases, some of us were so naive. You could see no hair, no muscles and if a girl ran past them naked, they will have missed it and ask what was funny. So was our life in SS2. Some other stories will be told of the ones that went after student teachers, those that spent their life in girl secondary schools. There were those that it was their teacher’s rear views that turned them on and others, their escapades after school or during holiday in the privacy of their homes..
Then there was this fateful day. The mother of all days. Etched in my memory. We were all at assembly and listening to the news being read by Oladiti Ogundipe. This day was so vivid in my mind because Nigeria had just lost it’s last qualifying game to Cameroon. We draw or win, we qualify for 1990 World Cup. We just needed not to lose. And that is what we did 😔. 1-0 to Oman-Biyik’s goal in Yaoundé. I was really sad because I have not seen Nigeria at the World Cup and watching 1986 World cup, and seeing my stars there will great. Peter Rufai, Stephen Keshi, Augustine Eguavon, Andrew Uwe, Sunday Eboigbe, Osaro Obabaifo, Dahiru Sadi, Friday Elaho, Samson Siasia, Etim Esin, Rashidi Yekini was dashed. I digress...
As Ola was finishing the news, there was commotion at the back of the lines. Usually, the trouble makers are usually at the back and the men teachers tend to stay at the back to keep things under control but this day, nothing could control the guys; and that included some of the SS1 boys and special 5; as we used to call them. What is the commotion🤷🏾♂️? Omo! The commotion was justified o! As we filed up the stairs to our class, the view became clear, a bus has brought 30 ( odindi 🙅🏾30) girls from Feggicola! Jesu oko ijo! I have never seen boys go into commotion 🙆🏾♂️! All the boys that I thought were under control suddenly became apes! All the girls were well controlled, stuck together and pushed on with their agenda. However, my friends had lost it o! All of them were scheming how to get close to where the girls near the tennis court. Boys suddenly became men...
I know there were a few that were cool about the situation. I am not surprised. Some of these girls know them well enough that that a glance their way melted them and you can see them blush despite being Africans. But my friends started holding their crotches and were salivating at the sight of the opposite .. No wonder Boyz II Men released a song : 🎼Although we’ve come, to the end of the road, still I can’t let go. It so natural, you belong to me, I belong to you😳.. 🎼
That day I knew that testosterone is a clear function of puberty. If any of those guys had not being aroused from their dormant state, thus day was the day of their release. We soon saw the product of the handiwork of some of us shortly after, some a bit later, others in the 2000’s
Eni to ye lo le ye 😁👊🏾
